Iyengar yoga retreat: the short version
Imagine a week where the only decision is which pose comes next. That is what an Iyengar yoga retreat feels like, and Flametree has run them in Bali for years. This page gathers everything we have written about our retreats. Iyengar yoga is the style developed by Mr BKS Iyengar. In the 20th century he did more than anyone to set down traditional Indian yoga, through his books and his teaching, and he pioneered the use of props. It is sometimes called modern classical yoga, and it’s the style we teach at Flametree. A retreat gives you time to go deeper than a weekly class allows.
Iyengar yoga retreat in short form
- What happens: the daily rhythm of yoga, food and rest.
- Who it suits: beginners, families and seasoned students.
- Why retreats help: what the studies say.
- Stories: what students say afterwards.
- Questions: the retreat FAQs.
- First class free: for newcomers, plus a half price pass.
This page is one of the topic hubs in Yoga Notes From Flametree.
Why go on a yoga retreat?
Because daily practice, good food and rest all add up. Away from work and screens, a week of practice has room to settle in a way a weekly class cannot.

A quiet forward bend above a Top End gorge.
Do I need to be experienced?
No. Our retreats are taught at more than one level, and beginners are welcome. The current dates and details are on the Bali retreat page.
