Maximise the change of a positive birth experience, especially if this is your first time pregnant. This private class (or maybe private sessions), is only needed in order to start the beginner online course or classes.

For the reasons outline below, yoga can be as important as your other antenatal classes or antenatal education by birth educators. You probably already know that a yoga practice is good for your pelvic floor. But a good yoga studio can provide much more than that.

If you’re still unconvinced about prenatal yoga near me, or prenatal yoga Brisbane, or prenatal yoga Darwin, or prenatal yoga Melbourne, or wherever you are, then read the tragic story below.

The story and the rest of this post, will outline more about why prenatal yoga online, or however you’re planning to do it, will help a lot.

A sad story of what to work to avoid

A good friend told me his ex-partner wanted their first baby together. She got pregnant three times, and had three very sad miscarriages.

I was unsure if I should tell you his story. But he said that if they had known what I am about to explain, it may have led to a very different end to his story.

It turns out his ex had kept up daily very fast walking exercise during the first trimester. My friend said his ex walked for 30-40 minutes a day, at a pace that my friend could not easily keep up with for that amount of time.

Speaking as a Senior Iyengar Yoga teacher, my view is that my friend’s pregnant partner would have been much better served by doing yoga.

The reason is because yoga would have evenly helped both parts of her nervous system.

As you may know, one part of your nervous system revs you up. The other part calms you down.

Most of us are stuck on rev up activities

Fast walking, together with many other conventional activities, rev you up. Most of us are not sufficiently balanced with our activities for both nervous systems.

In the case of this woman who had these miscarriage tragedies, it’s likely that yoga, whether online or in-studio, would have better prepared her, both mentally and physically, for what was to come.

Maybe, some systematic ways to chill out, as well as to do more appropriate exercise, would have prevented what happened to an otherwise very healthy woman.

My friend, who told me this story, has since done regular yoga for years. He knows the impact of yoga on his parasympathic nervous system. It’s the part of your nervous system that calms you, and more.

My friends BFO!

As soon as I mentioned my view of what had happened to his ex, he had a blinding flash of the obvious (aka BFO). He immediately agreed.

Because he is now an iyengar yoga student, he belatedly knows a lot about yoga. In other words, he has experienced enough yoga, to know that what I was saying was likely to be correct.

Of course, conventional health practitioners very rarely consider such matters.

That includes the allied health practitioners that his friend had visited regularly.

Senior Teacher Chris Lalor demonstrates a Gentle Yoga pose. Gentle Yoga is another of the optional class types in your prenatal yoga options.

Planning to be pregnant? Do yoga!

All this is why I strongly suggest that anyone planning to be pregnant should start yoga right away. Once they’re pregnant, if they know yoga, they can continue it right through the pregnancy.

In addition, women who are pregnant, but newcomers to yoga, should start yoga as soon as they pass the 15th week of pregnancy. They start with this 30-minute private class, and then do Flametree’s beginner classes listed below. (Where needed, the teacher gives modifications to poses).

For both beginners and non-beginners, yoga will be very helpful.

Beginners do the following classes from Flametree’s Special Focus Classes. They are Gentle Yoga, Women Only Yoga, Back Neck & Shoulder Yoga, and Restorative Yoga For Heart Health.

Obviously, get started well before your third trimester.

All Flametree classes implement what works for adult learners. If you have particular topics of interest, you can also ask your teacher to cover them.

If you are doing prenatal yoga online then you do an easy, once only online set up. After that, you just get a Zoom link for each class.

By the way, one of the many benefits of yoga is help with your breathing techniques. Once you’ve already done six weeks of beginner yoga, you can try out ten classes of free breath meditation (aka pranayama).

Miscarriage trauma lasts for decades

Having children is one of those life goals that is central to the lives of those who choose it.

Pregnancy is not an area where anything should be left to chance. It’s critical to maximise the chances that it will all go well.

In the case of my friend and his ex, even their relationship fell apart after the horror of three miscarriages.

Miscarriages usually leave scars and trauma that can last for decades.

So I’ve also written a new blog post about yoga for pregnancy. If it’s not relevant to you, please mention it to anyone you know who is either pregnant, or planning to be.

Avoid junk yoga

Last, I of course want to emphasise the importance of doing high quality yoga. I mean both Iyengar yoga, and the Special Focus classes listed above. Sadly, there is far too much junk yoga on the market.

For example, Miriam, in her own story of how she started at Flametree, says “I had only done what I call ‘gammon’ yoga, at a Darwin gym.”

Sadly, the problem of poor-quality yoga is not just limited to gyms. It’s why too many people have not been able to get the benefits that good yoga can deliver.

All of Flametree’s pregnancy yoga options are available both online and in our studios across Darwin. So it’s easy to access our pregnancy yoga from anywhere.

For you, or anyone you know, please do all you can to head off pregnancy tragedies. Please spread the word about Flametree’s pregnancy yoga options.

It’s worth noting that many health professionals not only do classes at Flametree, but they also often refer new students.

The pictures with this Post show some of the easy yoga postures taught in some of the beginner and non-beginner classes I’ve mentioned above, like Gentle Yoga.

These physical postures will do as much in you mind, as they do in your body.

If you want, at Flametree, there are also much other further trainings, and program types.

For now or course, you’re probably focussed on options for prenatal yoga classes.

So just choose a Darwin yoga space among the Flametree studios, or get started with prenatal yoga online.

The benefits of prenatal yoga online

Prenatal yoga online is convenient, lower cost that in-the-studio, safe and private in your own home, and always near you.
