  • slower breathing turns on your parasympathetic (“rest & digest”) nervous system
  • breathing thru your nose releases a chemical called nitric oxide, which relaxes you

  • Slowing exhalations soothes your nervous system via the vagus nerve.

As I’ve said: “Pranayama keeps me sane“. I get that some may not agree about my sanity!

I’ve been 25 years of experience of pranayama, and a knowledge of yoga from over 12,000 hours of yoga teacher training, plus even many more hours of teaching experience. But pranayama has provided many powerful tools that give me a dramatic increase in the benefits I get from yoga. Pranayama for anxiety is almost a side benefit of the many other benefits I get. Minimum props for pranayama

The minimum of yoga props you need for pranayama are these:

  • three blankets or large towels
  • a chair
  • a belt.
