“What is important is not merely stretching, but also prudently extending the muscles so that the [front and back] parts of the body are moved uniformly.
This mindfulness comes through the practice of the principles of yoga.”
BKS Iyengar in Yoga For Sports: A Journey Towards Health and Healing.

Flametree’s style of yoga for stiff men works so well that it also was taught to cricket legends like Justin Langer and Sachin Tendulkar.
These stars, and many other famous cricket teams, studied yoga for stiff guys in India so as to improve their flexibility, focus, and performance.
They studied with Mr BKS Iyengar, who founded the style of yoga taught by Flametree Yoga Studio.
In short, the sort of yoga for stiff people, that Flametree teaches to Darwin men, is proven, effective, and powerful at helping you get improved flexibility outcomes.
Star cricketers, like Tendulkar, appreciate yoga for stiff men
Mr Iyengar helped Tandulkar recover from multiple injuries for well over two decades. Tendulkar first met Iyengar was in 1998 when the batting legend was had bad backaches.
Iyengar fixed the backache, and taught Sachin mind body skills that further improved his cricket.
Below, also see more about Justin Langer on yoga for stiff people. (Below, see more on his views about how well yoga works for stiffness and health).
But first, let’s answer some of the frequent questions we get from Darwin men.
How long does it take for yoga to increase flexibility?
With a yoga class a week, you’ll see flexibility improvements within a month. Plus, even within a week, you may well see other benefits like sleeping better, calmness, better outlook, or a wide mix of other men’s health improvements. With 2 classes a week, better flexibility will be even faster.
Overall, yoga also has at least 117 other health and wellness benefits that have been proven my modern science.
Easy flexibility building yoga poses that all can do in some way
Is yoga or stretching better for flexibility?
Yoga is better for flexibility because it’s an organised system of stretching & strength building, It includes stretching, but it’s much more too. It evolved over millennia to address health needs, & it’s many benefits are backed by science. It can also be done at a range of levels, so it’s accessible to all.
In addition, to answer “is yoga or stretching better for flexibility”, re-read the quote above by master yogi, Mr BKS Iyengar. For instance, he draws out the significance of uniform development, and mindfulness.
We also stress that proper yoga for flexibility must involve an organised set of flexibility yoga poses for men. For example, see the list of easy yoga for stiff people poses at the end of this post.
Obviously, these poses are also arranged and taught so they also have suitable challenge. As a result, it does not take long for yoga to also increase your flexibility, but it’s done in a doable manner, at your individual level.
Too often, even beginner yoga is taught as “one size fits all”. Instead, at Flametree Darwin wellness hub, we teach even beginner yoga at several easy levels, and also customise it by individual.
Can you be too stiff for yoga?
Nobody is too stiff for at least some type of yoga. Instead, you start with extremely simple movements, with chairs optional. Just get an easy level that works for you. For example, yoga for stiff guys has basic yoga poses that are first done at a pre-beginner level. Then, a teacher guides you higher.
See below for a list of some typical poses for yoga for stiff men. Plus, check out some of the pictures in this post, or some of the easier poses on the teacher’s profile.

Justin Langer on yoga for stiff guys
Justin Langer is one of Australia’s major cricketing legends, scoring 7696 Test runs for Australia.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that he likes yoga poses that combine mental and physical effort, such as:
“the warrior pose where you get to co-ordinate your body and mind“.
Langer also says that yoga teaches you to put all your attention and focus on what is important right now.
”If you are facing a ball at 150 kilometres per hour, you want to be very present in that moment, because otherwise you’re going to get hurt, or you’re going to get out.”
In another interview with the Herald, talking about yoga, Langer added:
“I have never felt fitter and stronger, I just feel really good, I feel really in tune with my body.
Some of the many other cricket stars who’ve done yoga are Matthew Hayden, Damien Martyn and Michael Kasprowicz.
Australian cricket legend Shane Warne was less regular. But, he also adopted yoga as part of his return to form, after a 12 month period when he was suspended.
At the time, an Australian cricket team official said,
“Warnie is not a flexible person per se. We have been on to him to improve his flexibility, as he has got a little bit older.
I think he realises now there’s a benefit for his longevity”.

Flexibility predicts a longer, healthier life, says new study
Men in Darwin, and their friends, may also be interested to know there is a new study showing greater flexibility is likely to extend your health span, and even your life.
Meanwhile, you’ve probably seen or heard the endless claims about how you should increase strength, cardio fitness, or whatever.
Well, a new study of over 3,000 middle aged adults, over 13 years, showed a 15.4% death rate for the least flexible group, versus just 2.0% for the most flexible.
In short, it means that if you’re more flexible, you’re likely to live longer, and have more wellness.
More flexible men in Darwin, or wherever, also had a lower death rate.
So, flexibility, and yoga for stiff men, is a huge help to men’s health Darwin, or wherever.
