Best spicy red lentil soup recipe.
Sometimes called Moroccan red lentil soup recipe.
The names include red lentil and tomato soup recipe, or spiced Moroccan red lentil soup recipe. In my opinion, it’s the best spicy red lentil soup recipe, and a vegan red lentil option soup recipe too.
One of Flametree’s students kindly gave me this great recipe.
It’s tasty, and another great way to cook pulses, like red lentils.
You can also use the same sauce for pasta, including with red lentil spirals such as you can even buy in Woolworths.
(I’m on the hunt for more good quality pulse pasta options, so please let me know any suggestions you have).
Vegan red lentil soup recipe. Yum!
Why pulses are fundamental to wellness
Here is what the master yoga teacher, Mr BKS Iyengar, said about pulses.
“…I learned to cook when I first went abroad and found there was nothing Indian, and nothing vegetarian.
Also, it was costly to eat boiled carrots and mashed potato at restaurants.
How long could I survive on coffee, bread, and fruits?
So, I started carrying rice and pulses, and cooked my own meals whenever I travelled.”
…Our mental stability, our intellectual clarity, depends on the right kind of food.”
Mr BKS Iyengar
Long before I read the above interview with Mr BKS Iyengar, I (Christine) had been secretly carrying some of my own food when I travelled.
I’ve found exactly what he did. So, I also carried my own key food items.
In particular, it makes sure that I can get enough protein, without too much sugar, or systemic inflammation!
I didn’t feel comfortable revealing this wellness habit even to you… until I saw Mr Iyengar also carried his own food!
In restaurants, it’s still very hard to get tasty pulses, such as like black beans, red lentils, chick peas, and others.
Similarly, I can’t even remember ever finding an eatery with red lentil and tomato soup recipe on the menu.
Easy on digestion, healthy, & moreish
So, these are all reasons I’ve been steadily adding yummy pulse recipes to the Flametree wellness recipes.
I also find that pulses digest easily, so I don’t get some of the tummy upsets caused by some other food.
Plus, because it’s relatively high in protein, I don’t ever get hungry, even when I’m eating mindfully, or doing some intermittent fasting.
So, give this recipe a try.

I hope to also see you at a yoga or pranayama meditation class, online or in-studio. You can just turn up to our yoga studios, or make a reservation for the online link to the Zoom class.
Remember, yoga and meditation both make you more mindful, so you’re more able to eat mindfully, with appropriate moderation and choosiness.
Plus, eating the right amount and type of protein, and doing enough yoga for strength building, will deal with the muscle shrinkage, and bone strength reduction, that otherwise sets in relatively early in life, and continues ongoingly.
In addition, you’ll avoid the danger of common falls (which are a surprisingly large cause of death or unnecessary hospitalisation).
