Delicious black rice and mango dessert.

My favourite, easy dessert recipes with mango.

Try a mango Darwin delight, even including tofu!

NT Recipes for wonderful Northern Territory mangoes

Here’s another of Flametree’s NT recipes for Northern Territory mangoes. It’s a delicious black rice and mango dessert, so as to give you more easy dessert recipes with mango. So, try a mango Darwin delight, or check out the options for making them.

In the pictures below, one version even includes high protein soft tofu.  You can see it blended into some of the lighter coloured layers.

Essentially, you start with our black rice recipe, & then add blends of mango, tofu, and more. (By the way, black rice has over 3 times more protein than white rice, and is also delicious).

Mangoes, or tropical passionfruit, are used to either top off the dessert, or sometimes for the flavouring and sweetness of a whole dish, such as the black rice pudding, below.

If you’re managing the amount of sugar you have, then use less of the mango. But, you’ll still find that there’s plenty of mango to give that delicious flavour of Northern Territory mangoes.

Mango Darwin benefits

Although I love Northern Territory mangoes, I used to hold back from eating them.

Then, I realised that mangoes are also rated as a superfood.

For instance, according to the highly reputable Cleveland Health Clinic, they have benefits that include help gut health, weight control, hair and skin health, lowering cholesterol, controlling blood pressure, and helping prevent certain types of cancer.

Black rice and mango dessert ingredients

The picture below shows more of a typical dessert bowl, or breakfast bowl, of black rice.

Then, the Darwin mango is simply used for the topping, along with coconut yoghurt.

This option has lots of protein, and just a little mango for flavour. So, the sugar is at a very low level.

By the way, the organic coconut milk I use in recipes like black rice, has less than 2% sugar. Health experts consider that is very low, and within acceptable, healthy limits.

Try a mango Darwin delight… for dessert or breakfast

Northern Territory mangoes for breakfast or whenever

I tend to make several of these desserts and keep them in the fridge.

Or, I keep black rice in the fridge, and then use a mango Darwin topping.

Alternatively, if I’m in a rush for breakfast, I simply eat one of the desserts you can see, or add some other typical breakfast grains as well.

To keep it really simple, I sometimes just add a dessert spoon or two of dry, high protein sunflower seeds.

As you can see, I sometimes also add slices of Darwin bananas, or passionfruit, on top.

In the picture immediately below, you can see the cream coloured layer, immediately under the passionfruit. This layer is a blend of mango and soft, organic tofu.

In addition, there’s a layer of Northern Territory banana under the tofu.

Eating transformations via NT recipes, in a Bali retreat

Some of the NT recipes on our Recipes page originally came from the free cooking class at Flametree’s Bali retreat.

Most of even those have some local variations for the NT recipes that I (Christine), like best.

Plus, other recipes on our pages are either original NT recipes, or have been adapted for the tropical fruits most available, including of course Northern Territory mangoes.

By the way, there’s are several upcoming Flametree retreats in Bali in 2024/2025, including over Christmas / New year, Easter, and the August holiday periods.

The retreats I’ve been on, have forever changed by eating habits. I now have much more focus on plant based protein, and no added sugar, or minimal sugar, or both.

Plus, I appreciate an even wider variety of delicious tropical fruits, and have even more respect for their many benefits.
