By the way, bananas also have plenty of health benefits, including fiber, and nutrients.

The benefits of bananas outweigh the issue of the natural amount of sugar they contain, providing you eat them in moderation.

Old fashioned Darwin banana recipe ingredients

I call it old fashioned because my mother did this sort of baking.

It’s as delicious as I remember it. Here are the ingredients.

  • One pear
  • 2 medium size Darwin bananas
  • One tsp of fresh ginger
  • Sprinkle of each of nutmeg and cinnamon
  • 4 sheets of rice paper
  • Olive oil.

By the way, if you can get Territory bananas that are organic, such as from some markets, they are even more delectable.

With this recipe, the baked ginger combination is especially scrumptious.

You’ll love the best Territory dessert recipe I know.

By the way, one of the many things I love about the Flametree Bali retreat, is that I get desserts with lunch and dinner, and I don’t have to make them myself.

But these Territory banana recipes are so quick and easy, that I can and do whip them up in a flash.

Baked dessert with pear & ginger, in this rice paper

Rice paper for Territory banana recipes

Rice paper for Territory banana recipes like this one. It’s delicate, so use it carefully when you make this Darwin banana recipe, & don’t make the banana “parcels” too big… because they’ll fall apart!

You’ll find rice paper at Asian supermarkets, and maybe elsewhere.

Baked cinnamon NT bananas are even easier, & still yummy.

Cinnamon baked alternative.

This cinnamon baked alternative is also an even easier option than what I’ve outlined in this Darwin recipe. For this banana recipe, just sprinkle bananas with cinnamon, and bake for 10-15 minutes. Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.

By the way, another of the Territory recipes I love for dessert is a mangoes NT dessert layered with black rice & mango puree.

But, unlike Darwin mangoes, bananas are available almost all year, so it’s worth having some recipes like this up your sleeve.

In addition, as discussed above, bananas give you a lush range of other health and digestion benefits.

Local food is another great feature of Flametree retreats

By the way, there’s are several upcoming Flametree retreats in Bali in 2024/2025, including over Christmas / New year, Easter, and the August holiday periods.

One of the many things I like about the retreat is that almost all of the meal ingredients are bought daily in the large local markets.

So, you get fruit and vegetables with that delightful tropical fruit quality that’s only possible when it’s sun ripened and locally grown.

The head cooks at the retreat, and the resort owner, are also serious followers and users of flavorful, plant based recipes, without the many additives that you’ll find in many other places, including in Bali.

So, the food at the retreat is not only heavenly and very digestible, but it’s also clean and safe in terms of tummy upsets. As you no doubt know, that can’t be said of many other restaurants in lesser developed nations.
