Yoga and diet: the short version

Chris once threw out three bags of sugary food. Yoga and diet meet in moments like that, when the calm from the mat starts to change what lands on the plate. This page gathers everything Flametree has written on food, sugar, fasting, weight and daily habits. Iyengar yoga is the style developed by Mr BKS Iyengar. In the 20th century he did more than anyone to set down traditional Indian yoga, through his books and his teaching, and he pioneered the use of props. It is sometimes called modern classical yoga, and it’s the style we teach at Flametree. It asks for steady habits, on the mat and off it.

How can yoga change what you eat?

By making you notice. A calmer nervous system makes it easier to pause before reaching for something, and regular practice makes you feel the difference food makes.

The sugar cravings article tells the sugar story in full.

How do you make a habit stick?

Start small and keep it regular. Ten minutes most days is easier to keep up than one long session now and then. The daily yoga habit article and the free home practice sequences help you begin.
