Staying On Before Or After The Bali Retreat

Flametree Bali retreats, Sengkidu and Candidasa · rates as at 12 September 2026

Flown all that way, and the retreat is only six nights? Plenty of people add a few days at either end, and it is easy to do.

This page tells you where you can stay right next to the retreat, what each place costs, and how to book it. Two of the resorts give Flametree students a rate of their own, and the maps below show you every room at both of them.

Extra nights are your own booking. You book them yourself, direct with the resort, and you pay the resort yourself. Flametree does not take the booking or handle the money. That keeps it simple, and it means you can change your mind without it affecting your retreat package.

The short version

Four places, all within a few minutes of each other on the same stretch of coast.

Where What it is Price a night, for the room
Pondok Pisang The retreat itself. Simple, beautiful, right on the sea. Rp 700,000 to Rp 1,500,000, about $55 to $119
Sea Breeze Four star resort, 500 metres along the beach. Two pools. Rp 1,100,000 or Rp 1,500,000, about $87 or $119
Amarta Beach Simpler, friendly, on the beach, very fairly priced. Roughly $60 to $100, ask them
Candi Beach Resort and Spa A full international resort hotel, if that is what you want. Quite a bit more, ask them

Prices are for the room, per night, not per person, so two people sharing pay the one price and split it between them. Rupiah is what you pay. The dollar figures are only a guide, worked out at about 12,600 rupiah to the Australian dollar in September 2026.

Pondok Pisang, where the retreat is

The easiest option, and the one most people choose. You are already there, you already know the place, and you do not have to pack.

Mr Yande, the manager, gives Flametree students a rate of his own for extra nights, lower than the resort’s normal price, as long as you book with him directly. It is for the nights straight after a retreat, and we expect it will hold for the nights just before one as well, which we are confirming with him.

The map below shows every bungalow, roughly where it sits in the grounds, what the beds are, and the price. Tap it to see it full size.

Book it with Mr Yande on WhatsApp, +62 812-3959-4427. Tell him you are a student on the Flametree retreat and ask for the Flametree rate. If you would like to keep the room you had during the retreat, ask him early and he will usually hold it for you.

There is an a la carte restaurant at Pondok Pisang, in the dining room under the yoga room, looking straight out to sea. It is where you eat once the retreat meals have finished. Ask Mr Yande whether breakfast is part of the rate when you book.

Sea Breeze, the four star resort next door

Sea Breeze Candidasa is about 500 metres along the beach, two minutes by car. It is newer and more of a resort: two swimming pools, a spa, and its own a la carte restaurant by the first pool. Some Flametree guests stay there during the retreat and simply walk along for class and meals.

Luh De, the manager, holds these prices for Flametree students, for a room, per night, for one or two people. Breakfast is not included.

Room What it is 1 or 2 people
Superior A little back from the water, sea view from your terrace, king bed, about 38 square metres Rp 1,100,000  $87
Deluxe Right on the seafront, big terrace, king bed and a bathtub, about 60 square metres Rp 1,500,000  $119

Two people sharing works out at about $44 or $59 each. The map shows where each room sits, so you can ask for one you like the look of.

Worth knowing, because we would rather tell you. This is the price Sea Breeze holds for our students. It is not always cheaper than what you could find online for the same room without breakfast, so it is worth a look before you book. What it does give you is a straightforward booking with someone who knows the group, in a resort two minutes from the retreat.

Amarta Beach, good value and usually has room

Sea Breeze is not big, and it does fill up, especially the night before a retreat starts. If it is full, or if you would rather pay less, the one we point people to is Amarta Beach Cottages, a little further along the same coast at Sengkidu.

It is simpler than Sea Breeze and it is not a four star hotel, but it is right on the beach, it has a pool and a garden and a restaurant, and we have dealt with them for years. They are easy to talk to and they answer quickly. Online listings in September 2026 put their rooms at roughly $60 to $100 a night with breakfast, depending on the room and the time of year, so ask them for a price for your dates.

Bookings on WhatsApp, +62 819-3917-1221.

One practical point. Amarta is a bit too far to walk to Pondok Pisang comfortably, so if you stay there and want to come over, plan on a short taxi. It is only a few minutes in the car.

Candi Beach Resort and Spa, the big international hotel

Some people want a proper international hotel room, with everything that goes with it, and that is a fair thing to want after a long flight. Candi Beach Resort and Spa is on the same beach at Mendira, minutes from the retreat. It is a full resort: large pool, spa, gardens, restaurants, the sort of room you would find in any good four star hotel anywhere.

It costs a good deal more than the others on this page. If that suits you, ask them for a price for your dates.

How to book, whichever you choose

  • Message them directly, on WhatsApp for Pondok Pisang, Sea Breeze and Amarta. WhatsApp is how everything works in Bali, and it is much faster than email.
  • Say you are a student on the Flametree retreat, and give your dates. At Pondok Pisang and Sea Breeze, ask for the Flametree rate.
  • Do not book through a booking website if you want the Flametree rate. It only applies when you book with the resort itself.
  • Ask what is included, particularly breakfast, and ask about tax if the price looks like a bare room rate.
  • Pay the resort directly, in rupiah. The dollar figures on this page are a guide and they move with the exchange rate.
  • Book early for the nights before a retreat. Everyone wants those, and there are not many rooms.

Good to know before you book

Arriving in the small hours on the first day. If you land at dawn on the day the retreat starts, Pondok Pisang will not charge you for what is left of that night. Sea Breeze probably will, so if you want to check straight in there, book that night.

Arriving early and waiting. If your room is not ready, you can wait at Pondok Pisang in the garden and the common area, have breakfast, swim, and leave your bags while you walk or taxi into Candidasa.

Meals. Your retreat package covers six nights and eighteen meals, from dinner on the first evening to lunch on the last day. Outside that, you are paying for your own food. Pondok Pisang and Sea Breeze both have an a la carte restaurant, and there are warungs and cafes along the road.

Bali belly. Be a bit careful where you eat, as you would anywhere. In a decade of retreats at Pondok Pisang we have never had a case there.

Keep a copy. The two maps are also a printable PDF, so you can keep them on your phone and read them with no wifi at all, which is handy in the car up from the airport. Download the maps as a PDF, or use the print button at the top of this page to save the whole page.

Prices change. The rates here were given to us in September 2026. For a later retreat, ask when you book. We will put fresh figures on this page as we get them.

Getting there, getting about, getting home

From the airport. Chris has used the same Balinese driver for years, Wayan Lana, and so do most of our guests. Denpasar to Candidasa is about two hours and costs around $45 for the car, not per person, so three of you sharing makes it about $15 each. He will meet any flight at any hour. Around the area he is about $10 an hour including fuel.

Getting home very early. If your flight out is at dawn, think about where you sleep the night before. The Novotel Bali Airport is the only hotel actually inside the airport compound, a short walk to the terminal, and it fills up, so book it early. There is more on that on the information page.

While you are there. If you are adding days, there is plenty within reach. The full day trips, the islands and evenings out pages will give you ideas.
