Yoga for stress, and for actually switching off
Nobody has ever calmed down because they were told to calm down. That is the problem with most advice about pressure at work. It asks your head to fix your head.
This is a half price pass for twelve classes that go at it the other way round. Ten classes at half price, plus two free.
You already know the feeling
See how many of these you recognise. You do not need all of them. Two is enough.
- You get home and you are still having the meeting.
- You wake at three and your mind is already at work.
- You read the same paragraph four times and then give up.
- Your jaw is tight and your shoulders are somewhere near your ears by Wednesday.
- You are short with the people you like most, and you know exactly why.
- You have tried an app, and it worked for about eleven days.
Why a pose does what a decision cannot
Give the body something demanding enough to take your whole attention, and the argument from work has nowhere to hang about. It is not willpower. It is occupancy.
Stuart’s first day in one job, years ago, he was told the man who had the role before him had died of a heart attack. He kept doing yoga and breath practice the whole time he was there, and he is fairly clear about which of those two facts he would rather repeat. That is his own experience, not a promise about yours.
What Flametree will say plainly is this. An hour of precise, demanding work leaves most people quieter than they arrived, and the students here talk about focus more than they talk about calm.
What actually happens, class by class
- Your first class. You turn up in comfortable clothes. Mats and props are already there. You will be given specific things to do with your feet, your legs and your breath, and that specificity is the point. There is no room left over to think about the email.
- By class three. You notice the afternoon after a morning class is different. Most people report this as focus rather than relaxation, which surprises them.
- By class six. The breathing starts to be something you can call on outside the room. Sitting in the car before you go inside. Two minutes before a difficult conversation.
- By class ten. You have a short sequence you can do at home on the evenings when you can feel it building, and you know which one of them works on you.
Your pass also covers Gentle Yoga, Restorative Yoga, meditation and Yoga for Backs, all at no extra cost. The meditation and pranayama classes are the ones people on this page tend to end up in.
Three reasons this beats trying harder
It is demanding enough to occupy you. A gentle stretch leaves your head free to keep going. A pose held properly does not.
It fits a working week. Early mornings, lunchtimes, evenings and weekends, in the studio or LIVE online on the same pass. A late meeting does not cost you the class.
You are taught, not just supervised. Somebody watches you and tells you what to change. That is the difference between a class and a video, and it is why the hour actually holds your attention.
What students say
“I particularly like that they have an acute understanding and articulate how the asanas, when aligned properly, positively impact the body and still the mind rather than yoga just being a physical activity.”
Virginia, in a review on our Google listing, September 2026
“I owe a great deal to Flametree. Fitness, optimism, can-do attitude are all benefits that I have experienced, and courage!”
Karen, in a review on our Google listing
“At the start of Flametree’s beginner course, I stood with bowed arms, arched back, computer shoulders and legs that wouldn’t cooperate. Plus I had a mind that wouldn’t settle, or be calm.”
Sam P., from his story on the Flametree site
What you get for $59.50
- 10 classes at HALF price, plus 2 extra classes FREE, so 12 classes in total

- Woolner and Coolalinga / Palmerston studios, plus LIVE online, covering the Greater Darwin region including Casuarina and the northern suburbs
- Gentle Yoga, Restorative Yoga, meditation and Yoga for Backs all included, at no extra cost
- Props and mats supplied free at every studio, so you turn up with nothing but comfortable clothes
- Taught by Chris Lalor, Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher, and teachers she trained herself, so you are not being taught by somebody who did a short course
- A choice of many class times each week, so it fits around a real working week
- Valid for 6 months from your first class, which is plenty of time to build the habit
- Money back guarantee on your first class, so trying it costs you nothing but an hour
- Option to add 5 more half price classes as you add to cart, if you already know you want more
Why the Iyengar way suits this
Precision is the active ingredient. You are given a great many specific things to attend to at once, and attending to them is what leaves the rest of your head with nothing to do.
Props are the other half. Blocks, belts, blankets, chairs and the wall are used so the pose is adjusted to your body today, which is what lets you stay in it long enough for the quiet to arrive.
The teaching is slow and precise, there is no heat, no music and nobody competing with you, and every class ends lying still.
What changes if you come
Six weeks from now you will either have done this, and know what an hour of it does to your Thursday, or it will be six weeks later and the same Thursday will be the same Thursday.
That is genuinely the whole choice. It costs $59.50 and your first class is refundable.
Questions people ask before they start
Can I try one before I pay for anything?
Yes. Your first class is free if you are new to Flametree and you have been in the Territory three months or more, and for online newcomers as well. There is nothing you have to arrange. It does help if you let us know you are coming, because then your details are already in the system and you can walk straight into the class instead of filling anything in at the door.
I have no time. That is rather the problem.
Fair. Classes run early morning, at lunchtime, in the evening and at weekends, and the online option removes the drive at both ends. Two a week is enough to notice something.
I have tried meditation apps and I am no good at it.
Most people are not, on their own, with nothing to do. This is the opposite approach. You are standing up, being given instructions, and being corrected. Quiet arrives as a side effect rather than as the task.
Will I have to chant, or talk about my feelings?
No. It is a physical class, taught precisely, with breath practice in it. Nobody will ask you anything personal.
Can I do it from my lounge room?
Yes, on the same pass. Go to the timetable, click the class time you want, and we email you the link to join. Set your camera wide so the teacher can see your whole body, which is what lets her correct you by name during the class.
Is this right for everyone?
No. If you have had surgery in the last six weeks, or you are in acute pain right now, this is not the right starting point. Email us first and we will suggest something better. And if you are looking for treatment for a diagnosed condition, this is a yoga class, not a clinic. Speak to your doctor about that.
